How to collect customer feedback with a QR code
Updated:
Ask customers for a 1–5 star rating or written feedback with a QR code. See answers in the dashboard, export CSV and know the monthly response limit.
QR Crab has two form types for hearing from customers. Both open a short mobile page on QR Crab, and the answers arrive in your dashboard; nothing is posted publicly.
| Rating | Feedback | |
|---|---|---|
| What customers do | Tap 1 to 5 stars, optionally add a comment | Write a message, optionally with a topic, their name and email |
| Best for | Quick satisfaction checks: tables, receipts, hotel rooms | Suggestions, questions and complaints |
| What you see | Average rating, a 1–5 star breakdown and every comment | Every message, with a count per topic |
Create a rating or feedback QR code
- Choose Rating or Feedback. In the dashboard, click New QR code and pick Rating (stars) or Feedback (a written form) under Pages, files & forms.
- Write your question. For Rating, fill in Question (e.g. “How was your visit?”) and optionally Business or product name. For Feedback, fill in Title and optionally Intro text.
- Choose what to ask. Rating: keep or untick Let people add a comment. Feedback: add Categories (comma-separated, optional) and choose Ask for their name and Ask for their email.
- Style, create and place it. Click Create QR code, download it and put it where customers have a moment: tables, receipts, the counter or the checkout.
- Read the answers. Open the code → Responses to see every rating or message as it arrives.
The guided editor (Try the new editor (beta)) has the same fields, split into Content, Look and Finish steps. Form codes are always trackable, so they use one of your trackable codes (3 on Free) and need a confirmed email address.
What customers see
Rating: your business name (if set), your question, five stars and, if allowed, an Add a comment box, then Send rating.
Feedback: your title and intro, optional Your name and Your email fields, a Topic menu if you added categories, a Message box (up to 1,000 characters) and Send feedback.
After sending, they see a thank-you message. On the Free plan the page shows a small “Made with QR Crab” badge; Premium and Pro remove it.
Categories make feedback easier to sort. Keep them short and few, e.g. Service, Food, Cleanliness. If a customer picks none, the message is counted under “No category”.
Read and export responses
In the dashboard, open the code → Responses. You'll find:
- For Rating: the average out of 5, how many ratings of each star you got, and each rating with its comment.
- For Feedback: how many messages arrived per topic, and each message with the name and email when given.
- A This month meter showing how much of your monthly allowance is used.
- Delete next to each response, to remove spam or test entries.
On Premium and Pro, Export CSV downloads all responses for a code as a spreadsheet: time, rating and comment for ratings; time, name, email, category and message for feedback. On Free the button shows which plan includes it. Scans of the code are under Stats, so you can compare how many people scanned with how many answered.
Monthly response limits
| Free | Premium | Pro | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Responses per month | 25 | 500 | 5,000 |
| CSV export | No | Yes | Yes |
The allowance covers all your codes together, including Google review forms and coupon claims. When it runs out, forms pause until the next month; responses you already have are kept. See QR Crab plans compared: Free, Premium and Pro for everything each plan includes.
Common questions
Are customers' names and emails required?
No. On a Feedback form, name and email are always optional for the customer; only the message is required. You can also hide those fields completely. Rating forms never ask for a name or email.
How many responses can I get?
25 a month on Free, 500 on Premium and 5,000 on Pro. The limit is shared by all your rating, feedback and Google review forms and your coupon claims, and it resets each month.
What do customers see when I reach the limit?
The form shows This form isn't taking responses right now until the next month starts or you upgrade. Scans still work and are still counted.
Can one person spam the form?
Each visitor can send up to 5 responses per code per day, and a hidden check filters out simple bots.
Should I use this or a Google review code?
Use Rating or Feedback when you want private answers just for you. If you want more public Google reviews, use a How to make a Google review QR code: it asks for stars first and then invites happy customers to Google.
