How to make a Google review QR code

Find your Google review link, turn it into a QR code that asks every customer for a rating, and see ratings, private messages and taps through to Google.

A Google review QR code makes it easy for happy customers to leave a review while the visit is still fresh. On QR Crab, the Google review type also asks every customer for a quick star rating first, so you hear about problems privately, without hiding your Google page from anyone.

You need the link that opens the “write a review” box for your business. Google offers it to verified business owners:

  1. Sign in to Google Business Profile (or search for your business name on Google while signed in with the account that manages it).
  2. Open Read reviews, then Get more reviews. Google renames this from time to time; you may also see Ask for reviews or Share review form.
  3. Click Copy to copy the link. It usually looks like https://g.page/r/…/review.

Google's own instructions are in Create a Google link or QR code to request reviews. Before you print anything, open the link on your phone to check it shows the review box for the right business.

Make your Google review QR code

  1. Copy your Google review link. In your Google Business Profile, open Read reviews → Get more reviews (some versions call it Ask for reviews) and copy the link Google gives you. It usually starts with https://g.page/r/.
  2. Choose Google review. In the QR Crab dashboard, click New QR code and choose Google review under Pages, files & forms.
  3. Fill in the details. Enter your Business name and paste the link into Google review link. Change the Question if you like (it starts as “How was your visit?”), and optionally add your Yelp page and Facebook page.
  4. Add a frame. In Frame, the Review us frame (marked Suggested) adds stars and “Leave us a review”. You can change the text and color.
  5. Create, download and try it. Click Create QR code and Download. Scan it yourself and go through the steps once so you know what customers see.

What customers see

The page opens in the language of the customer's phone (English or Spanish) and works in any phone browser, no app needed.

  1. Stars. Your business name and question, five stars and a Next button.
  2. 4 or 5 stars: “Thanks! Would you share that on Google?” with a big Review us on Google button and a Maybe later link. Your Yelp and Facebook links, if you added them, appear underneath.
  3. 1 to 3 stars: “Sorry about that — tell us what happened.” with a box for a private message, an optional email for a reply and a Send to the owner button. Right below: “Prefer to post publicly? Leave a Google review”.
  4. Thank you. A short thank-you that still offers Leave a Google review.

Google's rules forbid review gating: “discouraging or prohibiting negative reviews, or selectively soliciting positive reviews from customers” (Maps user-contributed content policy). A tool that only sends 5-star customers to Google, and hides the link from everyone else, breaks that rule, and Google can remove reviews or restrict your profile.

QR Crab is built not to do that. The rating only changes how the page is laid out: happy customers get a bigger button, unhappy ones get a way to tell you first. Every customer who rates can reach your Google page in one tap, and nobody is asked to change or delete a review.

What you see in the dashboard

Open the code and go to the Responses tab:

  • Your average rating out of 5 and the number of ratings.
  • The distribution: how many 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1-star ratings.
  • Sent to Google: how many people tapped through to your Google review page, and what share of ratings that is.
  • Every rating, with private messages and reply emails, newest first. You can delete responses, and on Premium and Pro Export CSV.

The Stats tab shows the scans themselves: how many, when, and (on Premium and Pro) countries, cities and devices.

Common questions

Is this review gating?

No. Review gating means only sending happy customers to Google. QR Crab shows the Google review link to every customer who rates, whatever stars they pick: 4–5 stars get a big button, 1–3 stars see a message form with a “Leave a Google review” link right below it, and the thank-you page links to Google again.

Do the private messages go to Google?

No. Messages from the 1–3 star page go only to you, in the code's Responses tab. Nothing is posted anywhere. If the customer added an email, you can reply to them directly.

Does QR Crab post reviews or know who reviewed me?

No. When a customer taps the Google button, they leave QR Crab and write the review on Google themselves. QR Crab counts the tap (Sent to Google) but can't see whether they finished the review or what they wrote.

Why does it say the link must be a google.com link?

The Google review link field only accepts Google links (google.com, g.page, goo.gl or maps.app.goo.gl). Copy the review link from your Business Profile rather than the address of your website or a third-party page.

Can I give customers a discount for leaving a review?

No. Google treats offering discounts, freebies or other rewards in exchange for reviews as fake engagement, and it can remove the reviews or restrict your profile. Ask, make it easy, but don't pay. How to get more Google reviews (without breaking the rules) explains what's allowed.

What happens when I reach my monthly response limit?

Each star rating counts as one form response (Free: 25 a month, Premium: 500, Pro: 5,000, shared with your other forms and coupons). Once you reach it, the page skips the stars and shows the Review us on Google button straight away until the next month, so customers can still review you.
